I have probably used 10 to 20 different computers in my career and each time needed to re-configure it’s settings better. I found when I over customized my settings, it made it progressively more difficult to use a new computer, or even another persons computer which happens often in team environments
Using too few settings and you are bottle necking your ability to work at a point you get into a flow and enhance your creativity. I believe I found a good balance considering that I have been using these same settings, or something just like it since 2007 or the first versions of CC. The video is set within Photoshop CC Version 2020 but the fact that they are still my best way to get quality quickly tells me I am very close to the perfect balance.
Fundamental tools must be understood and mastered for truly great retouching. No tutorials or automatic features can achieve the kinds of results that can survive long term. Basic tools will open up every almost every retouching opportunity you will need and allow you to adapt.
Everyone’s needs are slightly different but this is a great starting point to build your own base from.
